    Robert Randal Van Meter, 72, of South Hill, Virginia passed away Friday, March 27, 2020. He was born January 30, 1948 to the late Howard and Ann Van Meter. Born in West Virginia but raised in Elyria, Ohio along with his brothers; Martin, Mitchell, Rick and Greg. He attended North Ridgeville High School and joined the Marine Corp during his senior year. He met our mother, Lois Turner Van Meter in Blackstone, Va. during his time at “Camp” Pickett now known as Fort Pickett. He and mom married August 2, 1969 and celebrated 36 wonderful years until she passed on October 24, 2005. He was remarried to Anne Gerrand until her passing in September 2018. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather; avid golfer and well-liked by many of his Tyson Foods and Velvet Textile co-workers. He will truly be missed but is no longer suffering from his COPD, heart failure and bladder cancer. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lillie and Jimmy Phillips and grandchildren Leigh Ann and James Randal aka “JR”; his son and daughter-in-law, Howard “Bud” and Tamara Van Meter and grandchildren, Cody, Jackson and Reese. He is also survived by his brother Mitchell Van Meter and his wife Cathy; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be held at 7PM on Monday, March 29, 2021 at the Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge, VA. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
